偶然会うって衝突するの？-bump into-

bump into

bumpとは名詞でこぶなどの「突起」や「衝突」のことを指します。

ちなみに、鳥肌のことは"goose bumps"といいます。🐤

動詞では、「（主語が）ドンっとかガタンっなどの音がするほどぶつかる」（自動詞）だったり、「（なんらかの物体を）落とす・ぶつける」（他動詞）という意味になります。

今日シェアする"bump into"というフレーズは、頻度高く使われ、「何かに衝突する」や「（意図せず〜に）出会す（ばったり会う）」ことを表す便利な表現です。

今日は会話の中で使ってみましょう。

Kate: 　  Hey, Russel.  What's up?　「Russel、最近どう？」

Russel:   Oh hi, Kate.  You know what? 　「やあ、Kate。そうそうきいて。」

　　　　I bumped into Helen the other day while I was walking down the street.

　　　　「この間街歩いていた時、Helenに偶然会ったよ。」

Kate:      Oh, are you sure?  How's she doing? 「まじ？彼女元気なの？」

　　　　Since she left, my pears and I often talk about her in the office. 

　　　　「彼女がいなくなってから仲間たちとよく彼女のこと話すのよ。

　　　　We miss her so much. 「みんなすごく彼女に会いたがってる。」

Russel:  Yeah.  We all miss her.  Hey, Listen.「みんなそうだよね。でさ、聞いて。」

　　　　We were chatting for a couple of minutes. 「2-3分話したんだ。」

　　　　Then, I asked her if she had time and she said "okay",

　　　　so we talked over a cup of coffee. 「で、少し時間あるかきいたら

　　　　OKって言うからさ、コーヒー飲んで話したんだよ。」

　　　　We caught up with each other for a little while. 

　　　　「近況についてちょっと話してね。」

　　　　Then, you know what?  She'll be here in town at the end of this month. 

　　　　「でさ、彼女今月末にこっちにいるって言うんだ。」

　　　　We are meeting again.  You wanna come?

　　　　「僕たちまた会うんだけど、来る？」

Kate:      I'm in!   Absolutely! 「行く行く。絶対！」

Russel:  Cool!「いいね。」
